Meet IU McKinney Student Morgan Seagrave
07/31/2024
Morgan Seagrave is a 3L from Greenwood. Seagrave is spending summer 2024 as an enforcement extern with the NCAA.
Any lawyers in the family? What made you decide you wanted to go to law school? And what brought you to IU McKinney in particular?
My dad has his J.D. I have wanted to be a lawyer for as long as I can remember, but I was really sold on it after taking a constitutional law class in college. I am actually a transfer student and what motivated me to transfer was coming back home and taking advantage of all that Indianapolis has to offer and exploring opportunities in health law and sports law.
What’s your experience been like as a student at IU McKinney?
I have enjoyed pursuing a health law certificate, making new friends, and networking with attorneys in the city. I already had some good connections from college who came to IU McKinney, but my transition at IU McKinney has been great because of the professors and students.
What’s been the biggest adjustment you’ve had to make in your life since you started law school?
I have always been organized and had great time management, but law school has taught me that I can't control everything and you just have to roll with the punches and make time to have fun and relax where you can.
What are you doing for your externship/internship this summer? What made you want to take part in this experience? What are you gaining from it?
I am an enforcement extern with the NCAA this summer. I am investigating rules violations by doing research and participating in interviews with coaches and student athletes. I have enjoyed being able to get some experience in sports in a capacity that I believe interests me most--enforcing bylaws at the collegiate level.
What student groups have you been involved in?
I have been involved in the Health Law Society and the Sports and Entertainment Law Society.
What externship or clinic courses have you take part in? Have you worked as a summer associate anywhere?
This is my first externship/clinic. Last summer I worked at the Hendricks County Prosecutor's Office and this summer I'm working at the firm Coots, Henke & Wheeler.
What are your plans for after law school?
As of now, I do not have a position lined up for after graduation, but I would love to work at a law firm downtown or on the north side of Indy or return to the NCAA.
