11/08/2024
Brittany Kelly, J.D. ’16, was celebrated for her work in an article in Indiana Capital Chronicle. Previously the deputy director of the Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, Kelly is now the state court behavioral health administrator in the Office of Judicial Administration at the Indiana Supreme Court.
In this new role, Kelly, who is a behavioral health specialist in addition to being a licensed attorney, oversees training efforts and identifies local resources available to counties. In the story, Chief Justice Loretta Rush discussed how the work is going.
“(Kelly’s) off and running. She’s had hundreds of inquiries from around the state; she’s meeting with judges. She’s helping with things like competency evaluations (and) accessing Medicaid,” Chief Justice Rush said in the piece. “… Seventy percent of people in jail have a behavioral health issue, which is substance abuse co-occuring or mental health.”
Kelly served as associate director for the Hall Center for Law and Health at IU McKinney before taking on her role at JLAP. Prior to that, she served as a public defender in the Marion County Public Defender Agency.
