Professor Silva Presents Scholar of the Month Series Lecture

The IU Indianapolis Center for Translating Research into Practice featured Professor Lahny Silva as its January lecture for its Scholar of the Month Conversation Series. The event took place January 31 on Zoom. Her scholarship focuses on the collateral consequences of conviction including housing exclusions, supervision practices, and the deprivation of constitutional rights. During the lecture, Professor Silva discussed the rights of felons to bear arms.
Professor Silva is the director of IU McKinney’s Re-Entry Clinic at IU McKinney. Clinic students, who must be certified legal interns, work as mentors to federal probationers and provide community outreach and legal representation in underserved areas in Indianapolis. In 2023, she was named a Chancellor’s Professor and received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement in recognition of her work in this area. In addition, she received the inaugural Community Activist Award from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office in 2024. Professor Silva was recognized for her dedication to making Indianapolis a safer and more just community and instilling these values in the next generation of lawyers.
