IU McKinney's BLSA Chapter Honored at Midwest Convention
02/06/2025
The Black Law Students Association at IU McKinney received two honors at the 57th MWBLSA in Chicago. The group was named “Medium Chapter of the Year” and recognized with the “Highest Chapter Engagement” award.
“These awards mean a lot to us, but this is just the beginning for our board,” said BLSA president Thierno Diallo. “We're committed to making a real impact at McKinney and in the Black legal community in Indiana, showing future Black law students that they can absolutely do the same, if not more. I am incredibly proud of our executive board, and I know without a doubt that the sky is the limit for us.” Diallo also expressed gratitude to fellow students Alexis French, Chloe Edwards, and all the BLSA boards that preceded the current group. “Also, a massive thank you to our incredible alumni, our dedicated members, our advisor Professor Lahny Silva, and the McKinney staff. Seriously, none of this would have been possible without you all.”

Oliver appreciated the recognition for the effort going into BLSA. “Receiving these honors is truly meaningful, but more than anything, they reflect the hard work happening behind the scenes,” Oliver said. “We are grateful for our dedicated members, whose engagement makes our chapter thrive. We deeply appreciate the law school's support in making our events possible and are especially thankful for our alumni, whose guidance and encouragement inspire us to continue building on their legacy.”

The event offered opportunities for networking in addition to the programming. In the photo, from left are Alvin D. Oliver II (2L), Chloe Edwards (3L), Illinois Supreme Court Justice P. Scott Neville, Ariana Martin (3L), and Thierno Diallo (2L).
