Associate Dean Pitts Named to Indiana Board of Law Examiners

IU McKinney Associate Dean for Research Michael J. Pitts has been appointed to the Indiana Board of Law Examiners. His appointment continues through November 30, 2029. He serves on the BLE with alumni Brian Karle, J.D. ’13 and Bryan Likins, J.D. ’11, as well as adjunct professor Cindy Bedrick.
The BLE is responsible for administering the bar examination to bar applicants, certifying legal interns, and both approving and renewing professional corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships for the legal profession, among its other duties.
Associate Dean Pitts is the Cleon H. Foust Professor of Law at IU McKinney. His scholarship focuses on the law of democracy, particularly voting rights and election administration. He has written over two dozen articles, essays, and book reviews that have appeared in journals such as The Florida State Law Review, The U.C.-Irvine Law Review, The American University Law Review, and The Alabama Law Review. His work has been cited numerous times in law reviews, political science journals, briefs, federal and state judicial opinions, and congressional testimony. He served as vice dean at IU McKinney from 2018 to 2022.
