Professor Roisman Co-Authors Casebook on Fair Housing
03/12/2025
IU McKinney Professor Florence Wagman Roisman is one of the co-authors on a new casebook about housing law. Titled, The Right to Fair Housing: Cases, Statutes, and Context, Professor Roisman’s co-authors are Professor Stacy E. Seicshnaydre of Tulane Law School and Professor Rigel C. Oliveri of the University of Missouri School of Law. The book was published by Aspen Publishing in February 2025.
Professor Roisman said she has taught the course titled Housing Discrimination and Segregation for decades and that she had wanted to write a casebook on the topic for years. Several years ago, she and Professor Seicshnaydre decided to write the book together and submitted a proposal to Aspen Publishing. “The acquisitions editor said ‘This book matters,’ which won our hearts,” Professor Roisman said. As work progressed on the casebook, they heard that professor Oliveri was thinking of writing a casebook on the same subject. She joined Professors Roisman and Seicshnaydre and the three collaborated on the project.
“We all believe that housing discrimination and segregation are central problems in the U.S. today and are pleased to have produced a book that others can use to teach this complex subject,” Professor Roisman said. “We think our combination of experience and scholarly backgrounds in other subjects put us in a good position to produce this book.”
Professor Roisman is the William F. Harvey Professor of Law and a Chancellor’s Professor at IU McKinney. She is a renowned legal scholar, particularly in the area of housing law, who teaches property, the civil rights movement (law and social change), housing discrimination and segregation, administrative law, real estate finance, housing & development law, comparative housing law, and homelessness and the law, U.S. legal history, and land use.
