Professor Carlton Waterhouse served as an organizer for the Third Annual National Conference of the Law and Religion Section of the National Bar Association which was held April 27 - 28, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. The conference brought together attorneys, clergy, judges, and activists to address the legal challenges and opportunities facing religious communities. The conference theme was "Faith, Law and Politics." The array of panels featured national experts and areas of interest, including Criminal Prosecution for Charitable Acts, Election Protection and Voter Education, Tax, Religion, and Politics, and Churches, Mosques, Temples and the Foreclosure Crisis. Professors Michael Pitts and Antony Page also participated in the conference as presenters. Professor Pitts made a presentation regarding voter identification laws and professor Page presented on the use of new corporate structures as by religious groups. In addition to serving as the program chair for the conference, Professor Waterhouse also participated in a panel examining the relationship between reparations and religion.
