Mohamed Arafa, S.J.D. '13, Completes Teaching in Brazil, Returns to IU McKinney for Spring 2017

Mohamed Arafa, S.J.D. ’13, recently completed teaching a class on Islamic Law at the University of Brasilia. He will again take part in the Third Winter School on Human Rights at The University of Groningen School of Political Science in December. In addition, Arafa will return to IU McKinney in Spring 2017 to teach Islamic Law.
Arafa taught an intensive class on Islamic Law during September and October at the University of Brasilia. While he was in Brazil, he gave several talks:

Arafa has once again been invited to teach at the University of Groningen’s Winter School on Human Rights. He has been invited to teach at the school in The Netherlands all three years the Winter School has been offered. Arafa also recently took part in a conference in Cairo of the International Criminal Law Association. He was a discussant along with Mohammad Amin El-Mahdi, who is the former minister of Transitional Justice and National Reconciliation in Egypt; and Dr. Fathy Sorour, who is the former Chief Justice of the Egyptian Council of State, an international judge, and the former speaker of the Egyptian Parliament. They discussed the role of the national judge in prosecuting international crimes.
