02/09/2018
Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and International Affairs Karen Bravo and Director of Graduate Programs Miki Hamstra visited Vietnam.
During their visit, Bravo’s and Hamstra’s first port of call was Vietnam National University - University of Economics and Law (VNU UEL), McKinney’s partner school in Ho Chi Minh City. Their goal was to strengthen the McKinney-VNU UEL partnership, including meeting with administrators, faculty and students. Both McKinney and VNU UEL representatives enjoyed the opportunity to strengthen the friendship and cooperation built through the exchange of visits by representatives of the two schools. In the photo at left, Bravo and Hamstra enjoy dinner with the Rector of VNU UEL, the Dean of the School of Law, the Vice-Director of the American Law Center, and their colleagues.
IU McKinney signed a cooperation agreement with VNU UEL in December 2016, during an official visit that included Dean Andrew Klein, Associate Dean Bravo, and Professors Xuan-Thao Nguyen. The agreement provides opportunities for professors and students at both schools for travel and scholarship. A delegation from the university visited Indianapolis in June 2017. S.J.D. candidate Anh Nguyen, LL.M. '16, and current LL.M. student Hao Nguyen are graduates of VNU UEL and have been excellent representatives of their school.
Hosted by current LLM students and alumni Ngoc Tran, Ngoc Le, Linh Ho, and Linh Chu, Bravo and Hamstra visited four other schools in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, to explore additional opportunities for collaboration and transnational exchange. McKinney students and alumni Ngoc Tran, LL.M. '15, Linh Chu, 'LL.M. '17, Jenny Linh Dang ’17, and current LL.M. student Ngoc Le are alumni of those schools.
During the visit, Bravo and Hamstra met with administrators, alumni and students of Foreign Trade University, Hanoi Law School, National Economics University in Hanoi, and Vietnam National University in Hanoi. The pair made official presentations on McKinney’s graduate programs, and on the challenges and opportunities presented by the internationalization of legal practice.
