IU McKinney was pleased to welcome two professors from Centro Universitario de Joao Pessoa (Unipe) in Brazil during a visit to the IUPUI campus on April 9-10, 2018. Professors Gustavo Rabay and Romulo Palitot, LL.M Program Academic Coordinator, met with Dean Andy Klein, Vice Dean Antony Page and Associate Dean Karen Bravo, as well as other faculty experts at IU McKinney to explore areas of mutual interest for research and collaboration.
Professors Rabay and Palitot visited with IU McKinney alumni at the Indiana Supreme Court, Justices Steven H. David, ’82, and Mark Massa, ’89. They were offered a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Supreme Court and learned about the American legal system. Justice David commemorated the visit by presenting Professor Romulo Palitot, who is the Vice-President of the Brazilian Superior Sports Court (Automotive Branch), with one of the original Indianapolis Speedway bricks and a copy of its patent. Jhani Laupus, ’99, Chair of the Cultural Outreach Committee Partners for the Americas (Indiana Chapter), also took them to visit the world famous track and museum at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Brazilian delegation also met with Dr. Mathew Palakal, Senior Executive Associate Dean of the IU School of Informatics who gave them a tour of IU’s cutting edge Advanced Visualization Lab and discussed research at the intersection of law and technology.
Established in 1971, The Centro Universitario de Joao Pessoa offers the Unipe Law Program, totaling 4,000 students and over 130 faculty.
