Discussion at IU McKinney Focuses on Inspirational Figures from Religion
03/22/2019
IU McKinney hosted "Which Saint Would You Rather Have a Beer With? A semi-serious symposium for all who thirst for inspiration" on March 18 in the Inlow Hall Faculty Lounge. Professors, religious leaders, and laypeople, gathered to discuss the historic religious leaders they would most like to interact with, if given the opportunity.
The inspiration for the event came from a conversation Professor Robert Katz had with the Reverend Christopher P. Johnson S.J., Vice President for Mission and Identity at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. Professor Katz was the moderator at the event.
Participants, and the saints they most would like to have a beer with, included:
- The Honorable Jane Magnus-Stinson, '83, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana (St. Theodora Guerin)
- The Honorable Tanya Walton Pratt of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana (Venerable Pierre Toussaint)
- Joseph L. Tucker Edmonds, Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Religious Studies at the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI (St. Josephine Bakhita)
- Rabbi Scott Fox, Associate Rabbi at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation (Maimonides)
- T. Jeffrey Hannah, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Marian University (St. Francis)
- John L. Hill, Professor of Law at IU McKinney (St. Thomas Aquinas)
- The Reverand Christopher P. Johnson S.J., Vice President for Mission and Identity at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School (St. Ignatius)
- Patrick J. Olmstead, Jr., '01, President of the Saint Thomas More Society of Central Indiana (St. Thomas More)
- Kimberly D. Russaw, Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible at the Christian Theological Seminary (Miriam)
- R. George Wright, the Lawrence A. Jegen III Professor of Law at IU McKinney (St. Katharine Drexel)
