Annual Gifts Allow McKinney Law to Meet New Challenges
10/02/2020
Annual gifts support every aspect of the IU McKinney experience, providing opportunities for students who will be the next generation of lawyers and leaders.
These annual gifts to the McKinney Law Fund are unrestricted, meaning they can be spent as they come in, supporting all aspects of the law school, and making an immediate difference in the lives of our students and faculty. State funding and tuition do not cover the cost of operating our law school, according to IU McKinney Dean Karen E. Bravo.
“We are so grateful for our generous donors and their annual fund gifts, which create opportunities for learning that would otherwise simply not exist,” Dean Bravo said.
The flexibility provided by annual fund gifts was critically important during the 2020 spring semester, as the law school had to quickly pivot to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for a blended curriculum of online and in-person learning for the 2020-21 academic year.
“The McKinney Law Fund always gives us the flexibility to take advantage of emerging opportunities,” Dean Bravo said. “In more challenging times, such as this year, we can respond to unanticipated needs, ensuring that our law school provides the best possible learning environment for our students.”
Gifts to the McKinney Law Fund make a significant impact on all areas of the law school, such as scholarships, student programming, faculty retention, recruitment, career services and the legacy of our law school.
Those dollars impact students’ daily experiences, through:
- Scholarships, fellowships, and awards for students that help keep IU McKinney an affordable, competitive choice for law students who are considering their options, as well as making law school attainable for our next generation of attorneys.
- Experiential learning opportunities for students such as moot court, simulation courses, and clinics.
- Recruiting and retaining talented faculty and providing ongoing training and professional opportunities.
- Professional development for students including networking opportunities, job fairs, and mock interviews.
- The Ruth Lilly Law Library where students have access to Lexis Nexis, classroom study aids, and Bar Exam prep study materials.
Please consider making your annual gift to IU McKinney today and make a big difference in our students' law school experience.
