Professor Orentlicher Comments for Washington Post Blog on Drinking Age Story
02/09/2015
Professor David Orentlicher said that a challenge to the ruling that resulted in all the states setting their drinking ages at 21 would cause dramatic upheaval. He made the comments in a post on the GovBeat blog for the Washington Post.
Professor Orentlicher went on to say that the United States Supreme Court would be reluctant to accept a challenge to the case South Dakota v. Dole, which cleared the way for the federal government to threaten the states with the loss of federal highway dollars unless states raised their legal drinking ages to 21.
Professor Orentlicher is Samuel R. Rosen Professor at IU McKinney. A scholar of constitutional law, and co-director of the Hall Center for Law and Health, he also has taught at Princeton University and the University of Chicago Law School. He earned degrees in law and medicine at Harvard and specializes as well in health care law and ethics.
