Janice E. Kreuscher, '84, Named IU McKinney's Outstanding Alumna of the Year

IU McKinney’s Alumnae Network has chosen Janice E. Kreuscher, ’84, a summa cum laude graduate, as the 2015 Outstanding Alumna of the Year. She will be celebrated at a luncheon event on June 12 at Woodstock Country Club in Indianapolis. She has been actively involved in the network since its inception in 2000.
Law school was not the first stop on her career path. Kruescher had been in the daily newspaper business as a reporter for about 15 years when she decided to give law school a try.
Public sector law is where Kruescher spent the greater part of her legal career. She served as chief counsel of government litigation in the Office of the Attorney General, and was general counsel of IndyGo – the Indianapolis public transportation corporation.
“I am pleased we are honoring Jan as our alumna of the year,” said IU McKinney Dean Andrew Klein. “She has given back to the school and the community in so many ways through her legal career. Her passion for the public good demonstrates what’s great about IU McKinney and our profession.”
She made a planned gift to the law school to establish the Jan Kreuscher Fellowship to fund summer public interest and public sector employment for students and to make these areas more visible to them. With her gift, Kreuscher will make it possible for McKinney students to work in these areas during their summers while in law school.
“Public-interest and public-sector law provided me with an opportunity to work with challenging legal issues in a team environment and make a difference in my community,” Kreuscher said.
“Some students may decide they want to pursue careers in public interest or the public sector,” Kreuscher said. “Others may pursue different paths, but may have more respect and understanding for these areas and may be motivated to do some pro bono work because of their time spent in the public sector. This is why I’m establishing the fellowship.”
The Alumnae Network is a forum for women graduates of IU McKinney to connect with each other, current students, and the law school community.
