08/04/2015
Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen is in the final stretch of what has been a three-year process, working with the Ministry of Justice Legal Team in Vietnam on the revision of the Secured Transactions Law.
“We met for two grueling days in late June 2015 in Da Nang to deliberate and finalize each provision of the proposed Secured Transactions Law,” Professor Nguyen said. The day before the meetings began, the ministry held a public hearing to collect comments, and Professor Nguyen spoke at the meeting. The public hearing was held June 25, and the meetings with the legal team were June 26 and 27. In the photo at left, Professor Nguyen is at the head of the table during a meeting with the legal team.
The revisions will need the approval of the Vietnam National Assembly, and Professor Nguyen will be on hand to speak to the National Assembly Legal Team to defend the Ministry of Justice’s proposed changes. A date has not yet been set for this hearing.
Professor Nguyen, who holds the Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law, is the director of the IU McKinney Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation. She is an internationally recognized legal scholar, known for her expertise in the intersections of intellectual property, secured transactions, bankruptcy, licensing, and taxation.
