IU McKinney to Co-Host European Law Alumni Networking Conference
02/23/2021
IU McKinney and IU Maurer have teamed up with the IU Alumni Association and the IU Europe Gateway to co-host the European Law Networking Conference March 18. This online event will provide opportunities for professional exchange or networking to Europe-based IU alumni and/or those who are engaged in business in Europe.
"We are thrilled to offer this inaugural IU alumni networking conference with our partners at IU Maurer, IUAA, and the IU Europe Gateway,” said Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs Miki Hamstra. “While COVID has made it challenging to gather in person, we are embracing the alumni interest in re-connecting virtually and look forward to many future opportunities for our IU alumni to expand their IU global network."
Attendees will be able to take part in breakout rooms on topics like the United States-European dialogue of legal systems, cross-border taking of evidence in a digital age, Brexit and the challenges of reunification, and crafting an alumni association in Europe. Professor Frank Emmert, Professor Tom Wilson, and Dean Hamstra are some of the IU McKinney faculty and staff who will facilitate the breakout rooms.
Professor Dr. Boštjan M. Zupančič, former judge of the European Court of Human Rights, will offer a keynote address. After serving as judge of the Constitutional Court of Slovenia for five years, he assumed judgeship at the ECHR in 1998. He occupied this position for 17 years, making him the longest-serving judge at the ECHR to this day.
The event will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. EDT. Those interested in learning more and registering may do so on the IU McKinney website.
