IU McKinney Master of Laws Students to Discuss Nigerian, Latin American, and U.S. Legal Perspectives March 19

Four students who are pursuing their Master of Laws degree at IU McKinney will discuss the legal system in their home countries during the Spring 2021 International Student Speaker Series. The event will take place in a Zoom format on March 19.

Adaugo Sandra Nwachukwu, who is pursing the International and Comparative Law LL.M. track, will discuss "The Health Law Practice in Nigeria." Nwachukwu is a lawyer in Nigeria, and has worked with Amazon Energy Limited as its legal officer dealing with engineering, oil gas and commercial law. She also has served as a legal intern at Indiana Legal Services Inc., in Indianapolis.
Febuk Uya is pursuing the Corporate and Commercial Law track. Uya will present "Nigeria: Employment and Labor Laws and Regulations." Uya is a lawyer in Nigeria with over 6 years of experience as legal counsel, leading teams focusing on corporate commercial, regulatory compliance, company formation and due diligence, commercial real estate, and foreign direct investment matters. Febuk currently serves as a corporate counsel extern at Cummins Inc., Indianapolis.
Joyce Almeida Ponce is pursuing the International Human Rights Law track. She will discuss "Same Sex marriage in Ecuador: A perspective from the Ecuadorian Constitution and Laws v. International Law." Ponce is an attorney in Ecuador, and worked for the legal division of the Fire Department of Guayaquil, focusing on public and administrative law and litigation.
Jose Luis Materan Sanchez is pursuing the Corporate and Commercial Law track. He will talk about "Essential Differences between the Venezuelan Legal System and the American Legal System." Sanchez is a lawyer in Venezuela who graduated from Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas, Venezuela where he also completed postgraduate studies in administrative law. Jose conducted specialized studies in fiscal control and state auditing. Since 2017, he has been working as a consultant at the law firm Culwell Legal LLC, in Fishers, Indiana.
