Professors Schumm, Sullivan Discuss Lawsuit over Indiana Gubernatorial Legislative Powers
05/06/2021
An article on the lawsuit over the new statute giving the Indiana General Assembly the power to convene and deal with statewide emergencies features comments from two members of the IU McKinney faculty: Professor Joel Schumm, ’98, and Professor Frank Sullivan Jr.
Such power is typically reserved to the governor, and therefore Governor Eric Holcomb is suing, arguing the new law is unconstitutional. The Indiana Attorney General’s Office also is involved in the controversy over the new law. The story (subscription may be required) features comment from both professors.
Professor Schumm is a magna cum laude graduate of IU McKinney who directs the Appellate Clinic and the Judicial Externship Program.
Professor Sullivan a former Indiana Supreme Court justice, is a professor of practice and an Indiana University Bicentennial Professor.
