Civil Practice Clinic Student Takes Part in Argument in Indiana Court of Appeals
09/29/2022
IU McKinney Civil Practice Clinic student Anna Cron took part in an oral argument before the Indiana Court of Appeals in the case, Deon Wilford v. State of Indiana. The argument took place September 12.
Cron was one of the students who helped draft an amicus brief in the case during the spring 2022 semester.
"We were really appreciative of both the court and counsel for agreeing to let us appear and argue, and will be interested in how things move forward from here," said Professor Carrie Hagan. "I’m also really proud of Anna – not only for being stellar in court, but for passing the bar shortly afterwards."
The clinic, as part of its work during the academic year, routinely checks for appeals that are filed relating to expungements. If there is an appeal that presents an issue that the students believe merits attention, the class works together to reason through the issue, what arguments need to be made and what impact their work could have for their clients going forward.
Professor Hagan directs the Civil Practice Clinic. She also is the director of experiential learning at IU McKinney.
