IU McKinney Professors Shawn Boyne and Emily Michiko Morris met with officials from the Tajikistan Ministries of Defense and Cybersecurity in the Zhujiajiao section of Shanghai at a 100-year-old tea house, where they observed an ancient tea ceremony. The professors discussed hot topics in cybersecurity and intellectual property issues with the visiting dignitaries. The delegation from Tajikistan is visiting the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law as part of the university's mission to train government officials from Silk Road countries.

Professors Boyne, Morris, and Xuan-Thao Nguyen were selected as High-end Foreign Experts by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs in China. All three professors will be teaching and conducting research at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law. Professors Nguyen and Morris will be involved in research and teaching in the area of intellectual property law. Professor Boyne will be involved in conducting global crisis simulations with Chinese students and teaching criminal law.

Professors Boyne and Morris met with the dean and vice dean of the criminal justice school to discuss possibilities for future student and faculty exchanges as well as cooperative research projects. In addition, Professor Boyne will be working with the Department of Criminal Justice to organize a counterterrorism simulation to be held at Shanghai University next fall.

Professor Boyne is a former prosecuting attorney and practiced for several years as a defense attorney before pursuing her career in academia. She is a scholar of comparative law who has previously presented her work at Yale University, the University of Virginia, and Washington & Lee's School of Law, as well as in Austria, Germany, and England. Professor Boyne teaches a seminar in Comparative National Security Law at IU McKinney and serves as co-chair of the Global Crisis Leadership Forum. She is one of the founding members of the Comparative Law Professors blog. Her latest book, The German Prosecution Service: Guardians of the Law?, was published in 2013 by Springer Publishing.

Professor Morris is an associate professor of law at IU McKinney. She teaches patent law, copyright law, and intellectual property law. Her research and teaching interests include patent law, health law and bioethics, Japanese law, and law and economic analysis.

Professor Nguyen, who holds the Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law, is the director of the IU McKinney Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation. She is an internationally recognized legal scholar, known for her expertise in the intersections of intellectual property, secured transactions, bankruptcy, licensing, and taxation.
