CLSP Visits Supreme Peoples Court
Students taking part in the Chinese Law Summer Program visited the Supreme People’s Court in Beijing. During the May 28 visit, Judge Ding Wenyan of the Supreme People’s Court visited with students. She also is a member of the China Institute of Applied Jurisprudence of the Supreme People’s Court. She talked about the court's powers, and discussed the Institute.

Professor Ding Xiangshun, LL.M. '06, Successfully Defends Dissertation
Professor Ding Xiangshun, LL.M. '06, successfully defended his dissertation, fulfilling the requirements for the Doctor of Juridical Science degree. The defense of his dissertation, titled "Raising the Bar through Reforming Legal Education: A Comparative Study on the Reforms of Legal Education in Northeast Asia," took place at IU McKinney on March 29.

Dean Klein Visits with Dean Wang at Renmin University of China Law School
IU McKinney Dean Andrew R. Klein traveled to Beijing in December 2018 to meet with Dean Wang Yi of Renmin University of China Law School. He made the journey with Professor Tom Wilson, Director of the Joint Center for Asian Law Studies, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the partnership between the two schools and the Chinese Law Summer Program, which takes place at Renmin each summer.

Eric David, '18, Takes Part in Renmin's Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Team
Eric David, '18, was chosen to take part in Renmin University of China Law School's Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team. The team placed third overall in the Oral Rounds, and won the top prize for Best Memorandum at a Pre Moot competition in late November in Beijing.

Professor Wilson Invited to Join the European Jurist Project
Professor Tom Wilson has joined the European Jurist Project and attended the inaugural meeting of the Project’s steering committee in Paris. The Project is an initiative of the European Law Faculties Association and the European Law Institute. The goal of the European Jurist Project is to train future lawyers to understand and appreciate the diversities inherent in different legal systems, both in Europe and globally, and to be able to function effectively in them.

Matthew Whitlock, '17, First to Study at Renmin Under New Scholarship Program
Matthew Whitlock, '17, is the first alumnus to take advantage of Renmin University of China Law School's scholarship for IU McKinney graduates who want to pursue a Master of Laws degree in Chinese Law. During Fall 2015, the University of Bergen Faculty of Law became the program’s fifth formal affiliate and the first international one.

Richard Griffin: Program Assistant, Musician, Problem Solver
In a lot of ways, Richard Griffin is an ambassador for IU McKinney. Griffin is the program assistant for the Chinese Law Summer Program, where IU McKinney students join students from other American law schools for two or four weeks of study, opportunities to work at Chinese law firms, and cultural trips in Beijing. He also coordinates the Sun Yat-sen Summer Program, where students and professors from China visit IU McKinney for two weeks to study the American legal system and a variety of legal field trips and cultural activities. And he takes care of what the academicians who come to study at IU McKinney need for the Visiting Scholars Program.

Professor Zhu Speaks at Wabash College
On November 12, 2013, Professor Zhu Jingwen spoke to students and faculty at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. His lecture, "Looking behind the increase in litigation in China: positive and negative impacts on Chinese society” was well received by those in attendance. An introduction was given by Professor Lloyd T. Wilson, Jr., Director of the Joint Center for Asian Law Studies.

Professor Zhu and Visiting Scholars meet with Justice David
On November 18, 2013 Professor Zhu Jingwen and five visiting scholars (Zhang Aiyan, Weng Yijie, Zhang Lele, Yang Jian, and Zeng Yuanyuan) met with Justice Steven H. David, ’82 at the Indiana Supreme Court. Justice David gave the visitors a tour of the Supreme Court Courtroom and explained the court’s procedures for selecting, hearing, and deciding cases.

Professor Zhu and Visiting Scholars meet with Judges Lawrence and McKinney
On November 12, 2013 Professor Zhu Jingwen and five visiting scholars from China (Zhang Aiyan, Weng Yijie, Zhang Lele, Yang Jian, and Zeng Yuanyuan) met with Judge William T. Lawrence, ’73 and Senior Judge Larry J. McKinney at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. The judges and scholars discussed some of the challenges facing courts in China and the U.S.

Reunion Held in Beijing for Chinese Alumni
The annual reunion of Chinese alumni of the IU McKinney School of Law was held on June 2, 2013, in Beijing. Chinese nationals who earned LL.M. and J.D. degrees were joined at the reunion by Chinese law professors who are alumni of IU McKinney’s visiting scholar program.

Professor Wilson Elected to Editorial Board in China
Professor Wilson has been elected to the editorial board of Frontiers of Law in China, an English language law review based in Beijing. The mission of the law review is to "provide a forum for comprehensive legal debate and to promote global dialogue between jurists."
